The National Underwriter Company is proud to offer the SBCS SMALL BUSINESS COVERAGE SPECIALIST designation program. Created with the learning needs of new insurance producers, agents, managers, CSRs, and corporate staff in mind, the SBCS SMALL BUSINESS COVERAGE SPECIALIST curriculum is the most complete professional learning program available for industry professionals seeking to master the subject of small business coverage. The program was created by the staff of the renowned FC&S Bulletins® and George E. Krauss, a well-known insurance expert and educator. It features detailed course content enhanced with real-life case study exercises.

Students completing the SBCS program have demonstrated extensive knowledge in a critical functional area of property and casualty insurance practice-insurance policy coverage-and will have applied that knowledge in real-life case study exercises.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to earn the SBCS SMALL BUSINESS COVERAGE SPECIALIST Designation, you must meet one or more of the following qualifications:

• Licensed agent, broker, adjuster, CSR, or solicitor
• At least one year of full-time experience in the insurance industry or as a risk management practitioner
• Students of insurance academies authorized to confer the SBCS designation

Curriculum

The SBCS SMALL BUSINESS COVERAGE SPECIALIST curriculum is based on the most important document in the insurance industry: the insurance policy. Students are guided through the curriculum by a comprehensive Study Guide, which emphasizes the unique insurance needs of small business and the coverage that addresses those needs. The information is presented through four Coverage Guides and five e-Learning programs. Materials are adapted from expert insurance coverage materials produced by the staff of The FC&S Bulletins®, its Coverage Guide Series, and the expertise of educator George E. Krauss.

Program Completion

Eligible candidates can earn the SBCS designation through a self-study program through The National Underwriter Company or through an authorized instructional academy.

Self-Study
Step 1: Score of 70% or better on each of the following SBCS Coverage Exams:
1. Insurance Principles (CD & Online Exam)
2. Businessowners (CD, Coverage Guide, & Online Exam)
3. Business Auto (CD, Coverage Guide, & Online Exam)
4. Workers Compensation (CD, Coverage Guide, & Online Exam)
5. Home-Based Business (CD, Coverage Guide, & Online Exam)
Step 2: Complete a Request for SBCS Designation form
Step 3: Mail the completed form with copies of the Results Page from each of the four Coverage Exams to:

Authorized Insurance Academy
Step 1: Register as a student with an authorized insurance academy
Step 2: Complete the course of study as required by the provider, including satisfactory scores on program examinations
Step 3: The authorized provider will provide you with a Request for SBCS Designation Form upon satisfactory completion of the course of study, and will forward the form to:
